The Mizfits are on a roll! Taking all three away games, Music City is currently ranked #2 in the region with a record of 3-1. There is still plenty of work to do as the ladies get ready for the last two (must win) home games of the regular season.

Going back to May 7th, the Mizfits took the 6.5 hour drive to High Point, NC to take on the Phoenix once again. After taking the first loss to the Phoenix at home, Music City had a point to prove and in a nail biter came away with the victory with a final score of 26-25.

The Mizfits/Phoenix game was one you definitely had to see. The Mizfits came out of the gate strong, putting up 12 points to 0 in the first half. However, the Phoenix would not go down lightly. They came back from halftime with two touchdowns to tie the game. After that, it would be a offensive battle as the Mizfits scored and the Phoenix answered two more times. The Mizfits were able to put up one two point conversion, taking the score to 26-19. With 8 minutes left in the game, the Phoenix threw one more touchdown. When it came down to the extra point, the Mizfits were able to block the kick, keeping the score at 26-25. From there, the Mizfits held the ball as long as possible. The Phoenix ended up with the ball in the last minute of the game. With 45 seconds left, the Phoenix fumbled the snap and the Mizfits walked away with the victory.

Music City had many players who helped secure the win. Quarterback Rodneika Crutcher (who completed 9 of 12 passes) threw for 169 yards, one passing touchdown, one rushing touchdown, and her only interception of the season. Top rushing yards go to Courtney Mosier (109 yrds) and Kamari Townsend (who had the other rushing touchdown). Also recognizing Erica Mason-Austin who had 5 receptions for 99 yards, Carah Johnson who secured a 40-yard touchdown pass, Leshay Shute with a crucial 2-point conversion, and Jessica Phelps with a rushing TD.

On defense, top tacklers for the game include Jasmine Brimm, Phelps, Mosier, Shute, and Townsend strongly supported by the rest of Mizfits defense. Music City had one sack, five fumble recoveries, two pass deflections, and one blocked extra point. Even though the defense allowed a few touchdowns, overall they were able to make crucial stops when it mattered to come away with this one.

On to the next game! The Mizfits rivalry with the Sizzle has cooled down over the past few seasons, but the Sizzle always play with heart. When the smoke cleared, the Mizfits were able to walk away with another win and final score of 65-6.

Music City came out of the gate strong for this game, but the Sizzle did as well. After the Mizfits first touchdown and a few penalties, the Sizzle found their way to the scoreboard with a touchdown. From that point forward, it was an offensive show with touchdowns and two-point conversions galore for Music City.

Offensively the Mizfits kept the ball on the ground, earning 279 of 348 yards on the ground. Top rusher for the game is Leshay Shute who ran 172 yards in 7 carries and one for a touchdown. In second place we have Jessica Phelps who ran in two TD’s of her own. Kamari Townsend and Carah Johnson also ran in a touchdown each. Rodneika Crutcher as quarterback completed 3 of 6 passes and threw in one touchdown. We had a total of nine touchdowns, five 2-pt conversions, and one extra point.

Defensively, the Mizfits were superior. Sabrina Rhodes was the top tackler for the game, securing 4 sacks and 3 additional tackles for loss along with Breniah Southall with her own sack. We had three interceptions: one for Crutcher, Townsend, and Erica Mason. We even had some pass deflections from Rhodes and Gwen Hardison. Even special teams saw some amazing plays with Mason running in a 97-yard punt return for touchdown. It was a highlight reel day for the Mizfits!

From here, the Mizfits will need to win both remaining home games to secure a spot in the playoffs.
