Mizfits Overcoming Obstacles

We’re two games into the season and the Mizfits are making the best of things. With a record of 1-1 so far, Music City needs to have a clean sweep of the last 4 games to have a shot at the playoffs. We’re ready for that challenge.

After a strong defensive battle for most of the game, the Mizfits are recovering from the first loss of the season. It was a hard fought battle, but the Caroline Phoenix were able to walk away with the win with a score of 14-0.

Special Teams

Despite the score, the Mizfits coaching staff and players felt the game was still a good one to learn from. For offensive MVP, we recognized Courtney Mosier for an outstanding game (she gained 106 yards in this game) as well as Antoinette Carroll for her role on defense versus the Phoenix. The Mizfits defense made stop after stop holding the Phoenix to 7 points and beating the Massey ranking system. We’ll also recognize Mosier and Jessica Phelps who racked up 10 tackles a piece. When the smoke cleared, the Mizfits still played a pretty good game and got back to the drawing board immediately to fix the mistakes.

On a brighter note, the second game went much better for the Mizfits! We came out victorious against the Columbus Vanguards with a final score of 42-0. The offense made some amazing plays, the defense were racking up backfield tackles the whole game, and even special teams made some awesome plays to secure the victory.

Quarterback Rodneika Crutcher had an outstanding game with 6 completions for 162 yards, her own run in touchdown, and a huge 58-yard pass for touchdown. Top receivers for the game were Erica Mason-Austin and Kristen Hutchins. Mason-Austin was able to take two of her three receptions to the house. Even with the success in the air, Music City gained most of their yards by running the ball. Mosier, Mason-Austin, Phelps, Crutcher, Kamari Townsend, Leshay Shute, and Carah Johnson all played a role in the 217 rushing yards acquired this game.

Right Before Kickoff vs Vanguards

On the defensive side of the ball, top tacklers include Jennika Watts, Gwendolyn Hardison, Jasmine Brimm, and Sabrina Rhodes who all made multiple tackles for losses. Mosier got herself an interception, Brimm blocked a kick, and Phelps, Townsend, and Shute all got a fumble recovery (Townsend took the ball!). For special teams, we can thank Mason-Austin for a huge 70-yard kickoff return that pretty much solidified the win.

With a new boost to our confidence, we still have plenty to work on before the next game. We’ll be taking on the Phoenix again at their home field in North Carolina on May 7th. This is a must win game for the Mizfits and you can bet the ladies are getting ready for vengeance. With playoffs just around the corner and no more weekends off, this will be a true test to see what the Mizfits are made of.

As always, thank you for your love and support!
