Nashville Womens Football kicks of 2024 season against Cincinnati Cougars April 27

Nashville Women’s Tennessee Football Ready to Take On Cincinnati Cougars in 2024 Opener

As the 2024 season kicks off, anticipation fills the air for the Nashville Women’s Football team as they prepare to face off against the formidable Cincinnati Cougars. Set to take place at STEM Prep Academy in Nashville, Tennessee, on April 27th, this clash promises to be an exhilarating encounter under the Saturday night lights, with kickoff scheduled for 7 pm CDT.

The Cougars, boasting a reputation as one of the nation’s top five teams, present a significant challenge for the Music City Mizfits. Having faced them twice in the previous season, with the Cougars emerging victorious on both occasions, the Nashville team enters this matchup with determination and a hunger for redemption.

Leading the charge for Nashville is Gwen Hardison, a stalwart at center, whose leadership and experience will be pivotal in guiding the team’s offensive line. Joining her are standout players like Pertrice Stewart and Veyonka Owens, whose talent and potential mark them as potential superstars in the making.

In the backfield, Nashville looks to a formidable quartet consisting of Natalie Pendley, Jennika Watts, Maren Kreid, and Malea Robertson to spearhead their offensive efforts and put points on the board. With a blend of speed, agility, and power, these players are poised to make significant contributions to Nashville’s scoring opportunities.

On the defensive side of the ball, Nashville has bolstered its ranks with new additions upfront while relying on seasoned veterans like Syntache Arnell and Breniah Southall to disrupt opposing offenses and apply pressure in the backfield. Supported by the formidable duo of Shadae Lorraine and Mandy Allison at linebacker, Nashville’s defense is primed to stifle the Cougars’ offensive aspirations.

In the secondary, the team benefits from the leadership and experience of Charity Jackson and Brittany Lytton, whose presence adds stability and poise to Nashville’s defensive backfield. Their ability to read plays, provide coverage, and make crucial stops will be instrumental in thwarting the Cougars’ passing game and securing crucial turnovers.

As the Nashville Women’s Football team embarks on their 2024 campaign, they do so with confidence, resilience, and a collective determination to make their mark on the gridiron. With a potent mix of talent, experience, and hunger for success, they are poised to write a new chapter in their storied rivalry with the Cincinnati Cougars, aiming to emerge victorious and set the tone for a successful season ahead. So mark your calendars and join us at STEM Prep Academy as we cheer on our Nashville Women’s Football team on their quest for glory!

Mizfits Pride Initiative: NIL and More

As promised, the Mizfits are excited to announce several new programs for our team and we’re excited to let people know about our goals and plans for the coming season.

First off, if you haven’t had a chance to check out this amazing Tennessean article featuring us, check it out here!

Team Goals
We have some goals to meet this year and we need all the support we can get. Our goal this year for a successful team will be a minimum of 30 players on the roster by the start of the season. It’s not an impossible feat as we have achieved almost that many players in previous seasons. While we were able to get to the playoffs with a small roster last season, we will only achieve more with the right group of women dedicated to greatness. If you’re interested in joining the team, you can email us at musiccitymizfits.com OR come out to one of our interest meetings OR just show up to tryouts! We’ll be glad to have you. If you simply want to support our efforts, be sure to like our Facebook page here and share tryout information as it comes!

Game Day Goals and Sponsorship Perks
If you have followed the Mizfits for a while, you’ve seen us work hard to give you a quality game that you can watch from anywhere. There have been plenty of technical difficulties to fight through, but we’ve also had a lot of success with streaming from the sidelines on Facebook. A ton of other teams began streaming from the sidelines for their fans that couldn’t attend (as well as the away team fans). But we can do better!

This year, we have a brand new set up for live streaming our games. We plan to stream all the games in a central location (Instagram) that will be viewable from anywhere. This should create a better experience for those viewing from home. We’ll have the whole field, the live score on the screen, and announcers to entertain during timeouts and halftime. All of this will be contingent on finding the right support to make this happen.

We are in search of a few good people who have an interest in media and putting on a show. This would be great for anyone in need of footage for a portfolio or reel. Specifically, we need 2-3 camera operators, 1-2 announcers, and 1 producer who will manage the actual live stream.

If you’re interested in being a part of the media team, email us.

The other exciting piece of our streams is we will have commercials! This is an opportunity for our sponsors to directly control how we spotlight them. It’s a great opportunity for any local businesses hoping to make connections in the community. The commercials can be done in advance or we can create one for you with your permission. If you’re interested in becoming a sponsor, please email us or check out our sponsorship page here.

Name Image and Likeness (NIL) Mizfits Pride Initiative
The Mizfits organization has already done some of the impossible by paying their players based on performance during games. This began in 2021 with the opportunity to win money for each game if you were the MVP on either offense or defense. This is a further extension of our MVP of the year, Rookie of the Year, Linewoman of the Year, Offensive Player of the Year, and Defensive Player of the Year, all of who win a trophy AND a cash prize for their efforts. These awards have gone a long way to motivate our players and to support future expenses that come up on and off the field. We’ll continue that program for the 2023 season, but there’s even more to look forward to.

Owner Donita Hines and Offensive Coordinator Donald Ragsdale have worked together to create the Mizfits Pride Name, Image and Likeness(NIL) initiative. This opportunity will be presented to players to act as ambassadors for businesses who support our qualifying athletes. Our players will continue to receive discounts from our sponsors, but select players will also get paid directly by the sponsors for brand marketing. This is huge for the Mizfits as this will serve as one of the first instances of women being paid because they play football. What makes this even more magical is that any player with the Mizfits can take advantage of this perk. As long as players are doing their best to represent the Mizfits brand, they can get the NIL opportunity to represent a local company, get paid, and enjoy a little relief on the financial side of football. We can’t thank the leadership team enough for this idea and helping their players succeed. If you remember previous articles, you’ll remember Donita spoke on this before and now it’s coming to fruition. The Mizfits have teamed up with Restore Hyper Wellness- Smyrna to pay two of our athletes, Leshay Shute and MJ Johnson, for appearing in commercials and social media ads. We couldn’t be prouder of these two and are extremely thankful for Restore and their generosity. Be sure to stop in at Restore Hyper Wellness- Smyrna and say thanks. Mention code MIZFITS and receive 15% off your services TODAY!

2022 MVP's: Linewoman of the Year (MJ Johnson), Rookie of the Year (Cort Mosier), Offensive Player of the Year (Kamari Townsend), Player of the Year (Rodneika Crutcher), and Jessica Phelps (Defensive Player of the Year)

Another big deal we’re excited to showcase is creating Mizfit NFT’s for sale. The idea here is you get to support our team, our league, and/or your favorite player by collecting NFT’s of your favorite Mizfit moments. These NFT’s will include player photos, stats, background information, and even a few highlights! Of course these NFT’s are tradeable and shareable. Let us know what you think and who you want to see next.

Meet the Mizfits 2.0
This year, we will be doing a lot more for the community and giving back where we can. We always participate in community service events, but now we want to bring a more fan-focused approach. Every year the Mizfits do a promotion called Meet the Mizfits to allow fans to get to know the players and coaches on the team. Well, this year we have some things to add to that campaign, giving fans the opportunity to meet players and coaches in real life! Fans can actually participate in our new coach’s podcast (more information coming soon), the signing party will be opened up to the public and media, and we will be giving sideline access to games. We look forward to seeing our fans interacting with Mizfits nation in a more personal and memorable way.

Changing the Game of Football, One Woman at a time

All in all, the Mizfits are about to make a big statement in the league and in sports in general. We can’t wait to begin. We will do what we need to do to make this sport profitable, stable, and fun. We hope that we’ll begin to see the tides continue to turn in favor of women’s football. Why not start at home?

2023 Season Preparations Begin

First of all, congratulations to all the teams who won championship rings this year! You all played great games and represented the league well.

Now, we’re ready to do our part by putting together an unstoppable family of Mizfit coaches, players, staff, AND fans this coming season. Here’s a rundown of what we’re looking for and how you can help!

Credit: Stephanie Amador for the Tennessean

PLAYERS
We’re always looking for players and this year is no different. If you’ve never played before, we’ll teach you the sport. If you have experience and you’re not sure if you’re able to keep up, come out anyway! There is no age limit (except being over 18) and no skill requirement to play. We have nowhere to go but up and we want as many women as possible to join us on that journey.

We’ll have interest meetings in August for those who need more information before the tryouts. These meetings will be inside at a local community center and open to anyone interested in joining the Mizfits. If you’re unable to attend a meeting, you can still come to tryouts. If you’re unable to come to either of those, but you know you definitely want to play, still reach out to us. We have the luxury of extending our intake period this season, so we’ll continuously be on the lookout for players.

The first interest meetings will be on August 13th. One meeting is scheduled at 2:15 at the Southeast Library in Antioch, TN. A second meeting is scheduled at 3:30pm at the Donelson Library. Also, make sure to follow us on Facebook and Instagram to stay up-to-date on upcoming events and tryout information.

COACHES
We’re looking for coaches. Overall, experience is preferred but not required. Our culture is fast paced, but we make sure everyone is on the same page to keep the train moving forward. Our coaches have regular meetings throughout the year. The head coach is Matt Breyemer who has been the head coach for one year and defensive coordinator for three years. We also have an offensive coordinator, a defensive line coach, and special teams coach. However, we are always looking for more to add to the roster, so it doesn’t matter what your specialty is. For more information about coaching, reach out to the owner and coaches directly at musiccitymizfits@gmail.com.

MEDIA NEEDS
The biggest goal this year is to stream every game and that will require some help to make sure we give a quality show to our fans who can’t make it to the games. We’re also hoping to amplify the in-person experience to new heights. We’re in search of a few camera operators, announcers, a music programmer (in charge of playing music in the stands), and a manager for the team. All the equipment needed should be provided and you would get into all the games for free!

One thing we’d like to improve is our pre-season videos and pictures. We have had amazing luck with our game day photographers and videographers, but we’d love to have someone who can come out to practices and other behind the scenes events to document our progress. This role would only be expected to come out to a few practices or events to get some footage that would be shared in different media outlets.

If you’re interested in joining the media team, you can email mizfitsmedia123@gmail.com.

Credit: Stephanie Amador for the Tennessean

GAME DAY MANAGER
We are looking for a game day manager for our home games. This role is in charge of everything going on around us on the field. There are food vendors, volunteer staff, players, media team members, and all manner of people who need direction. You would work closely with the owner to ensure the game goes on without any issues. If you’re interested in this position, email us at musiccitymizfits@gmail.com.

GAME DAY CREW
There are a few other roles that we need for our home games. Those jobs include holding the chains for the game, waterboy/watergirl, ticket taker, a merch attendant, and trainers. These roles will only take place during the home games and you’d obviously get into the games for free. For more information about joining our game day crew, email us at musiccitymizfits@gmail.com.

If you have any suggestions for ways you can help that you didn’t see listed, let us know! We’re always open to ideas to promote women playing football.

We can’t wait for the season to begin and everyone is welcome to support the Mizfits as you always have! Thank you!

Time to Bounce Back

It’s always hard to write about the end of the season, especially when it ends in a tough loss. In our third playoff appearance, the Mizfits were pushed out in the first round by the Carolina Phoenix. Despite the score, we know these ladies gave it everything they had on the field and we’re not going anywhere anytime soon!

The game itself was one of the closest games in the entire 2022 WFA Playoff season so far with a final score of 33-29. Both teams made some amazing plays and both teams made some mistakes. We also want to note there were a ton of flags thrown throughout the game and not always thrown equally.

Phoenix were the first to draw blood with a touchdown and extra point to put them on the board first. However, the Mizfits were able to respond quickly with a TD run in by Kamari Townsend and two-point conversion between Rodneika Crutcher and Erica Mason. We made some great stops in the first half including a blocked punt and a lucky kickoff that resulted in the Mizfits retaining possession as well as two sacks by Sabrina Rhodes. Cort Mosier had some huge runs for yards and Jasmine Taylor-Brimm came up with a one-armed interception. The second TD was also run in by Townsend and a qb keep for another one. Unfortunately, we also had some blown plays and an interception that worked against us in the first half. Despite this, the Mizfits went into halftime on top with a score of 21-14.

During the second half, the mistakes started to catch up to us and we weren’t able to overcome all the things working against us. The Phoenix were able to come out and score two TD’s without us answering. As a matter of fact, we were unable to add any points during the third quarter which didn’t help the cause. Things started to turn around as Carah Johnson snagged an interception and regained possession of the ball. We also were able to get a few key stops and fumble recoveries, so we were not giving up at all! We had some more blocked passes, Mandy Powell got in the back field for a sack, and some big runs kept us in the game until the very end. Our final touchdown and two-point conversion was run in by Jessica Phelps to bring us to our final score.

All in all, it was a hell of a game and one we’re very proud of. Football is a hard sport with so much to learn and perfect. All season we’ve dealt with weather issues, questionable calls, and numerous injuries. The odds were against the Mizfits even from the beginning. Massey had us ranked very low despite our previous season records. In spite of all this, we came and we conquered as much as we could. We’re so proud of what we’ve done. There’s only one way to go from here. Up!

Thank you as always for all your support. Mizfits Nation, we love you!

Road Warriors

The Mizfits are on a roll! Taking all three away games, Music City is currently ranked #2 in the region with a record of 3-1. There is still plenty of work to do as the ladies get ready for the last two (must win) home games of the regular season.

Going back to May 7th, the Mizfits took the 6.5 hour drive to High Point, NC to take on the Phoenix once again. After taking the first loss to the Phoenix at home, Music City had a point to prove and in a nail biter came away with the victory with a final score of 26-25.

Final score from Mizfits/Phoenix game on May 7th, 2022

The Mizfits/Phoenix game was one you definitely had to see. The Mizfits came out of the gate strong, putting up 12 points to 0 in the first half. However, the Phoenix would not go down lightly. They came back from halftime with two touchdowns to tie the game. After that, it would be a offensive battle as the Mizfits scored and the Phoenix answered two more times. The Mizfits were able to put up one two point conversion, taking the score to 26-19. With 8 minutes left in the game, the Phoenix threw one more touchdown. When it came down to the extra point, the Mizfits were able to block the kick, keeping the score at 26-25. From there, the Mizfits held the ball as long as possible. The Phoenix ended up with the ball in the last minute of the game. With 45 seconds left, the Phoenix fumbled the snap and the Mizfits walked away with the victory.

Music City had many players who helped secure the win. Quarterback Rodneika Crutcher (who completed 9 of 12 passes) threw for 169 yards, one passing touchdown, one rushing touchdown, and her only interception of the season. Top rushing yards go to Courtney Mosier (109 yrds) and Kamari Townsend (who had the other rushing touchdown). Also recognizing Erica Mason-Austin who had 5 receptions for 99 yards, Carah Johnson who secured a 40-yard touchdown pass, Leshay Shute with a crucial 2-point conversion, and Jessica Phelps with a rushing TD.

On defense, top tacklers for the game include Jasmine Brimm, Phelps, Mosier, Shute, and Townsend strongly supported by the rest of Mizfits defense. Music City had one sack, five fumble recoveries, two pass deflections, and one blocked extra point. Even though the defense allowed a few touchdowns, overall they were able to make crucial stops when it mattered to come away with this one.

Final score of Mizfits/Sizzle game on May 14th, 2022

On to the next game! The Mizfits rivalry with the Sizzle has cooled down over the past few seasons, but the Sizzle always play with heart. When the smoke cleared, the Mizfits were able to walk away with another win and final score of 65-6.

Music City came out of the gate strong for this game, but the Sizzle did as well. After the Mizfits first touchdown and a few penalties, the Sizzle found their way to the scoreboard with a touchdown. From that point forward, it was an offensive show with touchdowns and two-point conversions galore for Music City.

Offensively the Mizfits kept the ball on the ground, earning 279 of 348 yards on the ground. Top rusher for the game is Leshay Shute who ran 172 yards in 7 carries and one for a touchdown. In second place we have Jessica Phelps who ran in two TD’s of her own. Kamari Townsend and Carah Johnson also ran in a touchdown each. Rodneika Crutcher as quarterback completed 3 of 6 passes and threw in one touchdown. We had a total of nine touchdowns, five 2-pt conversions, and one extra point.

Defensively, the Mizfits were superior. Sabrina Rhodes was the top tackler for the game, securing 4 sacks and 3 additional tackles for loss along with Breniah Southall with her own sack. We had three interceptions: one for Crutcher, Townsend, and Erica Mason. We even had some pass deflections from Rhodes and Gwen Hardison. Even special teams saw some amazing plays with Mason running in a 97-yard punt return for touchdown. It was a highlight reel day for the Mizfits!

From here, the Mizfits will need to win both remaining home games to secure a spot in the playoffs. If you’re familiar with our ranking system, any slight change could upset everything so we won’t count our chickens before they hatch. Rest assured that your Mizfits will give it everything they’ve got to make it to the big show!

Thank you for your support!

Mizfits Overcoming Obstacles

We’re two games into the season and the Mizfits are making the best of things. With a record of 1-1 so far, Music City needs to have a clean sweep of the last 4 games to have a shot at the playoffs. We’re ready for that challenge.

After a strong defensive battle for most of the game, the Mizfits are recovering from the first loss of the season. It was a hard fought battle, but the Caroline Phoenix were able to walk away with the win with a score of 14-0.

Special Teams

Despite the score, the Mizfits coaching staff and players felt the game was still a good one to learn from. For offensive MVP, we recognized Courtney Mosier for an outstanding game (she gained 106 yards in this game) as well as Antoinette Carroll for her role on defense versus the Phoenix. The Mizfits defense made stop after stop holding the Phoenix to 7 points and beating the Massey ranking system. We’ll also recognize Mosier and Jessica Phelps who racked up 10 tackles a piece. When the smoke cleared, the Mizfits still played a pretty good game and got back to the drawing board immediately to fix the mistakes.

On a brighter note, the second game went much better for the Mizfits! We came out victorious against the Columbus Vanguards with a final score of 42-0. The offense made some amazing plays, the defense were racking up backfield tackles the whole game, and even special teams made some awesome plays to secure the victory.

Quarterback Rodneika Crutcher had an outstanding game with 6 completions for 162 yards, her own run in touchdown, and a huge 58-yard pass for touchdown. Top receivers for the game were Erica Mason-Austin and Kristen Hutchins. Mason-Austin was able to take two of her three receptions to the house. Even with the success in the air, Music City gained most of their yards by running the ball. Mosier, Mason-Austin, Phelps, Crutcher, Kamari Townsend, Leshay Shute, and Carah Johnson all played a role in the 217 rushing yards acquired this game.

Right Before Kickoff vs Vanguards

On the defensive side of the ball, top tacklers include Jennika Watts, Gwendolyn Hardison, Jasmine Brimm, and Sabrina Rhodes who all made multiple tackles for losses. Mosier got herself an interception, Brimm blocked a kick, and Phelps, Townsend, and Shute all got a fumble recovery (Townsend took the ball!). For special teams, we can thank Mason-Austin for a huge 70-yard kickoff return that pretty much solidified the win.

With a new boost to our confidence, we still have plenty to work on before the next game. We’ll be taking on the Phoenix again at their home field in North Carolina on May 7th. This is a must win game for the Mizfits and you can bet the ladies are getting ready for vengeance. With playoffs just around the corner and no more weekends off, this will be a true test to see what the Mizfits are made of.

As always, thank you for your love and support!

We Are The Mighty Mighty Mizfits

Every opportunity to touch the field is appreciated by the Mizfits. They are raring to go and pick up where they left off last season. The great thing is the Mizfits continue to grow stronger each year despite setbacks and upsets.

In 2021, the Mizfits hit the ground running hard during the regular season. Racking up a season record of 5-1, Music City saw their championship dreams dashed in the first round of playoffs. Never to be counted out, the Mizfits did show off their talent and skills throughout the entire season and that playoff game. With the opportunity to take it even further this year, you can bet these ladies are ready to take another shot at a championship ring in 2022.

Music City Mizfits 2022 Season

Leading the reigns this year is HC Matt “Tank” Breymeyer who served as Defensive Coordinator in the Mizfits last two seasons. For the offense, we have Donald Ragsdale as Offensive Coordinator. For Special Teams we have Derek Barnes and Line Coach is Dawn Foster. With this group, the Mizfits have been able to install plays faster than before, focus on key groups in critical situations, and motivate each player to reach their full potential. The hard work is paying off in practice and we know the coaches will be ready for the first match up this weekend.

In previous seasons, the Mizfits have dominated the matchup versus the Carolina Phoenix, but it doesn’t mean it will be an easy game. The Phoenix figured some things out in their first game versus the Richmond Black Widows, dropping a total of 57 points to win the game. They’ll also have the advantage of getting out first-game jitters as the Mizfits take the field for the first time this weekend. Despite this, the Mizfits coaches and players are really confident going into this one. The offense is meshing well and the defense is strong, so you can expect a great game from both sides!

The Mizfits community needs fans and friends like you and we love your support! If you’re interested in joining the team, check out the Contact page and send us your information. If you’re interested in volunteering to help with the team (we’re always looking for trainers, announcers, game day help, and more), check out this link. Finally, make sure you come out to a game! We’ll have music, food, an Easter egg hunt for the kids during halftime, and this season we’re raffling off a mini-helmet signed by AJ Brown of the Tennessee Titans! You can purchase tickets here. If you just can’t make it, we’ll be live-streaming from the sidelines again this year!

Thanks and thanks again for your love and support. We couldn’t do it without you!

WOMEN’S FOOTBALL TRYOUTS: What to expect!

We’re seeing the turnout of athletic women increase as we prepare for another exciting season of football. We thought it would be a good time to share information about what to expect when you’re trying out for the Mizfits (or any team for that matter!). Here’s some helpful hints to keep in mind as we prepare to kick off the 2022 season.

FIND OUT AS MUCH INFO ABOUT THE TEAM AS POSSIBLE
Facebook is a great place to start. Most teams have a social media presence and during the recruitment season, there will be updates galore. The Mizfits normally begin tryouts in September or early October depending on the season expectations. This year, we’ll be playing in some exciting preseason scrimmages that we want to have as much time to prepare as possible. Flyers will contain a great deal of the information needed, but don’t be afraid to ask a question or two via dm or in the comments. Someone will generally get back to you within a couple of hours.

Mizfits FB Page: https://www.facebook.com/MusicCityMizfits
Mizfits Instagram Page: https://www.instagram.com/musiccitymizfits/?hl=en

WHAT SHOULD YOU BRING WITH YOU TO TRYOUTS?
Depending on the style of the camp, this information can also be found on the flyers. All teams will want you to come in comfortable clothing. If you have cleats, those are preferred, but sneakers or running shoes are also acceptable. You should also bring an ID, water, and any medical equipment you may need. The Mizfits do not currently require a registration fee, but some teams do.

WHAT TO EXPECT AT TRYOUTS
We typically have tryouts over a two-day period. Upon arrival, you’ll need to fill out a couple of forms and meet the owner. After that, you’ll warm up with the team including jogging and stretching. After the coaches chat with the participants, you’ll go through a series of timed and non-timed drills to assess your current physical abilities. Tryouts will typically be 1-2 hours. You do not have to come to both days of each camp, but it is highly encouraged. The more opportunities you have to showcase your skills, the better! After the tryouts are concluded, the owner will reach out to let you know if you made the team.

WHAT OTHER OPPORTUNITIES ARE THERE IN WOMEN’S FOOTBALL?
We are always looking for help in different areas of the Mizfits organization. We are always willing to talk to coaches. both on the field and off the field. We have plenty of opportunities to help with weekly practices, team conditioning, media for the games, volunteers for game day and more. Most teams will have a board that includes the owners and other assigned duties to help with the team. Don’t hesitate to reach out and let us know if you’re interested in joining the Mizfits family!

WHAT’S NEXT FOR US?
Right now, we’re in the midst of tryouts and we want to see as many people as possible out there! We’re excited to see the talent that has already shown up, as well as the returning Mizfits who are itching to get a championship. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please let us know and we’ll be happy to help!

As always, thank you for all your support and love! It doesn’t go unnoticed.

TRIPLE H: Heads Held High

The stats aren’t up yet, but we know we played a damn good game! The Mizfits are looking to bounce back after a tough loss to the Dynamite in the first round of playoffs. This is the second time the Mizfits have made it to playoffs in their 5 years in the WFA (Derby is in year 10). Even though we didn’t get the W, we did our thing and we made some of the naysayers respect the Mizfits brand.

Out of the gate, the Mizfits were looking great. Derby City got the ball first and they weren’t able to get anything going (shoutout to the defense!). After a few plays to drive down the field, the Mizfits would secure the first points of the game with a field goal from Stacey Dykstra. That would be the cap for the Mizfits until the 4th quarter where Kate Siddall ran in a touchdown to bring the Mizfits to 9 points before the end. Derby City was able to score a majority of their points with runs from QB Laessence Buckner, though the Mizfits stopped a majority of their two-point conversions. Derby City has always had a strong running game and they relied on that the entirety of the game. The Mizfits were able to make a few key stops, but containment is the name of the game with the Dynamite. The Mizfits just weren’t able to keep the lanes blocked long enough to prevent the score.

The thing is: we know that we can beat them. Derby City has always been a contender and touted as the Mizfits’ #1 rival. This season proved we’re not only able to keep up with the Dynamite squad; we’ve got the tools necessary to win it in the end. Now, we’ll head back to the drawing board to find out who and what we need to do to shut down the run, shut down the passing game, and take over as the team to beat in the Southeast Conference. Had we won this game, we’d be #1 and we’d be the team to beat for the championship. From our viewpoint, the Mizfits are #1 and we’ll prove it sooner than later.

While we’re here, we want to give love and prayers to #5 Kamari Townsend. She had a great game, but unfortunately she took a big hit to the head and had to be pulled from the game. 3rd quarter was delayed in order for medical services to come assess the injury and owner Donita Hines took the ride with her (and still gave us support via facebook live!). I’m happy to say Kamari is doing a lot better today and made it home. We definitely thank the Derby City trainer for checking out our injured Mizfits and checking on them afterwards.

It’s hard to remain unbiased when the team you love is fighting it out! It’s even harder when you have two teams banging into each other for a few hours every other Saturday. It’s easy to see the opponent as the enemy. What we must all remember is that we’re all looking to uplift women’s football. We should all be on the same team when it comes to that!

Don’t worry about the Mizfits! In the locker room, the coaches let us know how proud they were of their players and what we plan to do as we get ready for the next season. Coach Tank told the team “Preseason starts tomorrow. Are you going to let this loss make you quit? Are you going to let this make you give up? Or are you going to buckle down, put in the work, and show them why we’re the best in the league?”.

I think we’ll go for it all!

WE LOVE YALL!

MUSIC CITY MIZFITS FOR LIFE! HARD WORK ALL DAY! THANK YOU FOR THE SEASON, THANK YOU FOR THE MEMORIES, THANK YOU FOR THE LOVE! WE LOVE YOU RIGHT BACK!
