Nashville Women’s Football Team Ready To Make Title Run

NASHVILLE, TN- The Music City Mizfits are preparing for their 3rd season of play, beginning April 7th with an away game against division rival Cincinnati Sizzle in Ohio. The Mizfits compete in the Women’s Football Alliance (WFA), the largest women’s football league in the world with over 60 teams. Led by a talented core of veterans, headlined by Donita Hines, Heidi McGuire and Cie Cie Harris, the ladies are coming of a 5-3 record in their first season of WFA play.

Head coach Don Ragsdale spent the off-season evaluating last year’s team, and came to the conclusion that the missing ingredient was toughness. “Things happen really fast during a game, and that can make it hard sometimes. We need to be tough enough to get through those hard times and win every game on our schedule.” Ragsdale is looking at several second-year players to step up and fill critical roles on the team. “We need people like Glorena Pugh, LeShay Shute and Jaime Lock to be leaders this year. They all had strong first seasons, they just need to build on that.”

Speaking of first seasons, Music City used the off-season to add more than a dozen women who will be playing their first year of football. As owner Donita Hines puts it, “I am extremely excited to see what these rookies will do. They have worked hard, been very coachable, just willing to do whatever needs to be done.” The Mizfits have had no shortage of rookie star power in the past, sending Karissa Burnett and Stacey Dykstra to the All American game this past summer. It will be interesting to see if this year’s rookie class, spearheaded by Rachel Calar, Gwen Shelton, Meria Jackson, Brennan Crabtree and Jennika Watts, can come close to reaching those lofty goals.

The Mizfits were fortunate enough to pick up some players from other teams as well. Tasha Mitchell brings lots of experience from the Portland Fighting Shockwave. Charity Jackson and Ashley Crawford come from another team in the area that couldn’t quite get off the ground, and both are excited to get their shot on the football field.

Music City has a demanding 8 game schedule this spring. Home games include tilts against the Huntsville Tigers on April 14th at Maplewood High School, a rematch with Cincinnati on May 5th, an interstate rivalry against the Derby City (KY) Dynamite on May 12th and versus the Carolina Phoenix May 19th. Those home games will be played at Lighthouse Christian School, and kick off for all games is at 7 p.m. Season tickets are on sale now and can be purchased HERE.
